I was out shopping the other day and after a heavy down pour it turned out to be a pretty day! I missed what i was aiming to photograph but the reflection in the store front shows a beautiful day and city! (I take pictures of items i might buy to get the brand and price and danish word and go home and translate it. lol)

 Have a strange compulsion to document American things: (though McDonald's and Subway are too common to document)

 This is near where we live and is a very pretty neighborhood.

 Doug pointed out this seal on the building is the Aarhus seal.

 Some less city like pictures and some good fall colors

I took these pictures on the way back from the market my first week here. This was in sharp contrast to the walk to the store. I was a whopping 34 degrees with strong wind and sideways rain! my umbrella was a mess in no time and I kept taking wrong turns. So I we elated to come out to find (after 10 min in the store) the sun was shining and such beautiful light but the pics are a little blurry.

 This is my street taken just a few minutes later. I was facing the storm clouds and the sun was setting fast so the light had changed quite a bit. I notice that there is a significant shadow even at high noon because we are so far north!

 This was taken Oct 23 at the farmer's market down the street. They are there every Wednesday and Saturday. They have fruits, veggies, raw meat and fish, cheese, eggs, a bakery and also flowers and plants. This Saturday I forgot a bag so my journey home was a bit interesting. I did get a one bag from a vendor which is more than you will get at a store unless you buy one.

On closer inspection one rainy day I read the explanation:

 This is a museum exhibit called Den Gemle By meaning "the old town." They have restored some old buildings to what they would have looked like in the mid 1800's and claims that Hans Christian Andersen grew up in this neighborhood and have stories of his boyhood.

 The carving in the wood says 1593!

These are from the Mint-maker's mansion. This was (the very end of) the baroque period and I guess the fashion at the time was to mock expensive materials (maybe if you couldn't afford the real thing?) so the walls and woodwork are painted to look like expensive fabric or marble or a jungle.. yep a jungle. There was one room so ugly I couldn't even document it.

And my favorite!!!!! for Halloween or harvest I don't know they tradition is to carve turnips and make candy (anise flavored but almost all candy here is that flavor!) Pretty scary huh? think they get scarier as they age!

A bay we crossed from one Island to the mainland. (I did see some ocean too but was occupied in a 15 min wait for one person in the toilet!) so, no pics but it was big and blue : )

Losing daylight

It was a long train ride but the mile walk home with 3 heavy bags between Doug and I was long in it's own right but we made it and I needed a workout anyway!
